And the ride continues...

In true Arsenal style this season, after the heroics of a couple of days ago, it was a disappointing away day against Wigan. Wenger made 8 changes to the team that outplayed Chelsea and the gamble didn't pay off. After a slow start to the match, we regained the momentum and took the lead through goals by Arshavin and Bendtner. Rather than killing the game off in the second half with an extra man, the team tried to keep Wigan out and it was once again defensive carelessness that cost us when Wigan leveled the game at 2-2. We had a clear penalty shout ruled out in the end but in truth, we should have had the game wrapped up by then. Now we must focus on Saturday and try to get maximum points.

Finally, a big match to savour

A great result against Chelsea today. It was a great performance by the team and one well overdue in these so called big games. Wenger made some brave changes to the starting lineup and they payed off. The players seemed up for it from the first whistle, pressured Chelsea up the field and played some dazzling football. Every single player performed to a high level but Cesc and Song particularly impressed me.

After the disappointment of the Manchester United game, this outcome gives the team a hefty confidence boost, keeps us well in the title race and gives us an opportunity to step it up a gear in the new year. It will mean next to nothing though, if we don't follow it up with a good result against Wigan in a couple of days.

We are gearing up for the big one on Monday against Chelsea. RVP and Cesc are both back and likely starters. We really need the win to finally end our poor run against the "big" teams and get back on track in the league. Go Arsenal!

No good news from Old Trafford

So where does the sobering night in Manchester leave us? It was a great chance to put things right. To produce a performance that would go a long way to showing that this team really is ready for big things. As it was though, Arsenal put in the same lackluster display we are accustomed to. I really don't know why the team can't lift for games like this.

The positive aspects from the game were the performance of Szczesny who looks a certain number one goalkeeper in the long run and that besides our depressing 5th loss, we are still very much in the race. Now we must turn to the Stoke game and really show our class.
