Arsenal needs to bounce back in CL

On Wednesday, Arsenal will face Galatasaray in the Champions League group stages. The Gunners will hope to bounce back from a string of disappointing results.

The Gunners still have the possibility of finishing top of the group. However, to keep those dreams alive they have to get a win against the other teams and hope that other teams will lose points elsewhere.

Arsenal will have to win the hard way given the number of injuries the team has suffered. Wenger will be hoping at least Jack Wilshere will pass the fitness test and shake off his injury to face the Turkish side.

Good luck to the boys.We believe in you.

Arsenal needs to find consistency amid injury crisis

Arsenal start of the season has been rocky. In six league matches, they have managed to win two. They have lost every game in all cup competitions excluding the CL qualifiers. This has been coupled with some diabolical performances filled with profligacy and lack of ruthlessness.

Injuries, a familiar aroma is now rooming around Emirates. A phenomenon the manager has admitted as a crisis ahead of the trip to Stamford. Currently, Debuchy, Walcott, Monreal, Sanogo, Giroud, Arteta and Ramsey are all injured. Remember its only September!

I was so expectant this season and still I am. With the new additions, I anticipated much improvement from last season. Seems like the more things change at Arsenal the more they remain the same.

With such an uninspiring start, Arsenal seem to be regressing. After making so much progress last season especially at the end, current results need to be improved. I believe things will turn around. When we start a winning streak it won’t stop.

Inconsistent Arsenal draws again

Arsenal will see that as two points lost rather than a point gained. A Mathieu Flamini error (again) allowed Spurs to score against the run of play. That was pretty much similar to that City game; failing to score while on top of the game.

Failing to beat Spurs really hurts. We all know they are not that good. Possessing the ball without punishing the lethargic Spurs in the first half cost us. Even more frustrating, the manner with which we conceded the goal was pathetic. A real gift it was to the Sp*ds.

The draw means that Arsenal have won two games out of six. We are six points behind Chelsea and we are traveling to Stamford the next EPL game. Frankly, I am worried.

The inconsistent results are a real cause of worry. Failing to beat this Spurs team is even more worrying. The growing injury list is scarily. Nothing seems to be going the Arsenal way at the moment.

The first Northern London derby of the season is here

On Saturday, Arsenal will lock horns with their eternal rivals, Tottenham. The show will feature Pochettino who will be in charge of the first north London derby against Wenger who has endured 46 premier league games between the two teams.

Arsenal will be boosted by the return of Per and Gibbs in their defense. Mathieu Flamini is also expected to feature as a further defensive option. The three were not utilized in the League Cup because of minor injuries.

If history is to go by, Arsenal has the advantage over Spurs at the Emirates. Spurs have just won twice at Arsenal in the entire Premier League era.

Good luck to Arsenal. There is no better opponent to beat than Spurs.

Arsenal bundled out of League Cup

Arsenal fans can now remove one of the trophies from the possible trophies that Arsenal can win. This trophy happens to be the League Cup. For those who are superstitious, probably I jinxed Arsenal on my article yesterday on what Arsenal could realistically win this season.

The Gunners suffered a shock loss from the well-organized Southampton team. The Gunners were in control in the first quarter of the game and took the lead through a sumptuous free kick by Alexis Sanchez. The Saints then equalized from the spot after a foul on Mane by Rosicky. Nathan Clyne scored the winner through a thunderous effort after a poor clearance from a corner.

Overall, the Gunners were not impressive but can draw encouragement from the performance of the youngsters. Oooh! Diaby played 60 minutes without getting injured. Good news, surely.

Arsenal face Tottenham on Saturday in the first north London derby of the season.

Which do you think Arsenal will realistically win?

Last season, Arsenal broke their 9 year trophy less era by winning the FA cup in a spectacular fashion. Another season is here and the Wenger boys will need to continue from where they left.

With the League Cup commencing today, the Gunners have a realistic chance of winning all four trophies. But because we try to be reasonable here, what trophies do you think are within the grasp of the Gunners?

I particularly think we have a realistic chance of winning either the FA cup, League Cup and probably the EPL. What your say Gunners?

Ozil is best in the middle

Recently, Ozil has been under fire due to his performances that have been described as substandard. The 42M million man, has been blamed for poor work rate and accused of 'stealing a living' at Emirates.

However, during the weekend the former Madrid man was played centrally where he oozed class that we all know he possesses. Arsenal completed 741 passes with Ozil being the center of it with a pass success rate of 91.5%.

For most part of this season, Ozil has been played on the left to accommodate the likes of Wilshere. At that position he has been ineffective something that has contributed to his poor form.

Hope Wenger now plays Ozil in the middle to get the best out of the World Cup winner.

Brilliant Arsenal finish off Villains in 3 minutes

It was a roller-coaster afternoon for the Gunners as they extended their unbeaten run at Villa Park to 16 games. Arsenal finished their business in three minutes and 12 seconds.

As expected, Aston Villa would represent a stern test given their blistering opening league campaign. Villa dominated the opening exchanges and almost scored a goal from a free kick that saw Szczęsny pull a brilliant save.

However, when Arsenal struck they never stopped. Goals from Ozil, Welbeck and an own goal ensured a comfortable afternoon for the Gunners. Most importantly, the effect of Ozil behind the striker was evident given his excellent performance. He got a much needed goal and an assist to answer his critics.

New boy, Danny Welbeck also opened his account by scoring the second goal.

Well done Wenger boys. That was more like it. Better days ahead.

Villa game a must win for Arsenal

This weekend, Arsenal will play Aston Villa at the Villa Park Stadium. The Gunners will be keen to bounce from their dismal defeat in the Champions League.

Arsene Wenger once claimed that unlike before, Arsenal has the mentality to move on quickly after a defeat. On Saturday, his team will be put to test by the Villains who have made the best league start in the last 16 years.

Arsenal has an impressive record at Villa Park. They last lost in this stadium in the year 1998. However, records are there to be broken. The Gunners need to be at their best to get past the well organized and astute Villa defense.

Good luck to the Gunners.

Why can’t Arsenal beat top teams?

I am always disturbed by the fact that Arsenal hardly beats decent teams in the recent years. Last season particularly, Arsenal was beaten by the top teams in an embarrassing way. Worryingly, in all the big games Arsenal always lose in a predictable manner.

Against small teams, the tactics of possessing the ball works. Against the top sides, they always exploit our weaknesses. Losing the ball upfront when the whole team is attacking, exposes the team from counter attacks. Without a dynamic defensive midfielder, more than often this leads to a goal.

When Paul Merson said that Arsenal are a ‘gillion’ miles away from winning the league (whatever that means), it sounded harsh but a critical look at it, there is some truthfulness in it.

A major factor contributing to this is the failure to strengthen all weakness areas in the summer. Have we ever started a season with a complete team with adequate depth in all the areas? This season particularly, the club was in a dire need for a defensive midfielder. After being linked to a million players, the club did not sign any player. The failure to do that has severely exposed the club against top teams. Take a close look at all the BVB goals and those that could have been.

The season is still raw. A quick rethinking is prudent at Emirates. Champions go by that name as they can beat the best. The way things are Arsenal look weaker than last season.

Sorry Arsenal downed by Dortmund in familiar fashion

As am writing this am furious. Furious because my beloved team lost in unfashionable manner. Teams lose games, but the way Arsenal lose is very frustrating.

In the CL tie vs Dortmund, Arsenal were woeful and uninspiring. To be fair enough, were it not for the brilliance of Szczesny and the profligacy of BVB we would be talking of a cricket score.

Our midfield looked disjointed. Our defense was in shambles. Our strike force was wasteful. It’s a night that showed how the two teams are miles apart (I painfully have to say that). Teams with a similar culture but a contrast in their playing style ad approach in big games.

Unless otherwise, the hopes of finishing first in the CL group looks dim for Arsenal. We all know what happens when you finish second, don’t we? It has happened in the recent years and the result? You get Bayern, Barcelona or Madrid. Its needless to say how the outcome of the results.

That was another away day, another awful loss in familiar fashion. When will we ever learn?

Debuchy injury sparks defense crisis at Arsenal

Arsenal right back, Mathieu Debuchy signed from Newcastle is likely to miss football action for a considerable time following the ankle injury sustained in the weekend clash against City.

It’s a worrying sign for Wenger as the injury leaves Arsenal with lack of depth. Following the commencement of Champions League football, the need to rotate the squad is paramount. With the water thin squad of Arsenal in defense, things are not looking pretty good.

To elaborate this situation further, other than Chambers, the Gunners do not have a cover for central defenders other than Per and Kolscieny. Mind you, Chambers will have to be deployed as a right following the injury to Debuchy. This means Hector Bellerin, a 16 year old with a single league cup appearance could feature for the first team.

Good luck Wenger, we have been here before.

Are Arsenal title contenders after the crunch draw with City?

Yesterday’s early kick off saw a vicious and exciting encounter between two England heavy weights. The crunchy game surely sent swings of momentum across the football world.

So, are Arsenal genuine contenders? In all fairness, a draw seemed a fair result. However, Wenger will be furious in the manner in which Arsenal conceded the equalizer. They allowed the champions back in the game and could have won it in the end. Fragility? Perhaps not (yes).

For Arsenal, a win would have been more welcome given their horrible statistics against teams who have finished in the top four. A win would improve their confidence as well as send a statement to other title rivals.

Genuine title contenders have to get results on the big occasions. For Arsenal particularly, they have a lot to prove on those occasions. They have to harden that soft underbelly that strong teams always exploit.

Exciting game at Emirates see Arsenal draw with Champions

Wow! What a game that was. A game that could have gone either way. Perhaps, a draw was a fair result.

Arsenal started brightly for the first 25 minutes but City nicked a goal against the run of play. Earlier, Welbeck had hit the post after beating Hart with a sumptuous chip.

Arsenal will draw encouragement from the performance of Wilshere. What a terrific game he had! He did what we all know he can. Great at surging forward and opening up the opponent’s defense. He grabbed a beautiful goal to cap his great performance. MOTM for me. Hey! And what a finish by Alexis.
Worryingly for Arsenal was their defending. Perhaps that what cost them the three points. There were numerous moments of criminal defending. The first goal was scored from losing the ball upfront and Flamini lost track of Aguero in the build up for the goal. The second was an abject defending for the corner. Fourth goal we conceded from a header this season. Not good.

Wenger will also ponder over the loss of Debuchy through what seemed a bad injury. Hope things are not bad for him as you realize after Chambers came on, all our first team defenders were on the field bar from Gibbs. Scaring, uh? Hope the failure to sign another defender won’t haunt us.

Were you happy with the draw? For me I cannot complain.

Arsenal vs Manchester City: Arsenal has to turn up against the big boys

Tomorrow early kick off will feature Arsenal versus the champions, Manchester City. Neither a loss or a win for Arsenal will have a significant influence in terms of the title race, but a win for Arsenal will send a statement to the rivals.

Arsenal will have to be at their best to beat the expensively assembled squad of City. They need to find a balance in midfield. They have to change the tactics not only to suit their strengths but also relent the strengths of the opponent.

In the past, Wenger has been criticized for being naive when facing the big teams. He has been criticized for using the same tactics against all opponents. Tomorrow, he has to ensure the team produces a performance similar to the one during the Community Shield.

Good luck to the boys.Hope they make all the Arsenal fans around the world smile.

Who doesn’t relish Arsenal Glory days?

Last night, I watched a couple of our matches in the early 2000s. Oh my what a feeling! I missed those days. The days when Arsenal instigated fear in any team in the world.

As I watched the boys play then, one could see the steel and the undying spirit to win. The fearless stature and confidence in the team was high. So what has changed since then?

A number of factors have changed in the game and at Arsenal since then. At Arsenal, the exit of mercurial players cannot be downplayed. By the way, have we ever replaced Viera? The game has also changed. Title contenders are dictated by their financial power.

Please Wenger, bring back the Arsenal Glory days. We miss them.

Welbeck could be the Sturridge for Arsenal

Danny Welbeck was characteristically unhappy of being played out of position at Manchester United. At Arsenal, the Englishman has the opportunity to play in his preferred central role.

His move to Arsenal has been likened to that move of Sturridge from Chelsea to Liverpool. At Liverpool, Sturridge has played in his preferred central role and has scored loads of goals.

At Arsenal, the Manchester born striker has a manager in Arsene Wenger who will guide him realize his potential maximally. At the age of 23, Welbeck has all the time to achieve the feats of previous Arsenal great strikers.

Did you not like his performance for England vs Switzerland? Expect more from Danny boy.

Who should be Arsenal’s main striker?

Arsenal is currently full of attacking potential especially at the midfield. At the striking department, recruitment of Welbeck has added options. Assuming all our strikers are fit, the question is who should lead our strike force.

In an injury free situation, arsenal will have out and out striking options of Giroud, Welbeck and Sanogo. In addition to that, Arsenal has wingers like Walcott, Alexis and Campbell who can play as strikers in a makeshift role.

So Gooners, who would you prefer to lead our front line?

Who will be the Arsenal player to stand out this season?

Last season, Arsenal saw the meteoric rise of Ramsey. The Welshman caught the eye of every Arsenal fan by his prolific goal scoring form.

A new season is here and the Welshman has picked from where he left last season. With Ramsey having proved his critics wrong, who will be the stand out Arsenal player this season?

The likes of Ozil and Wilshere have been criticized for their below par performances. They have undoubted quality and have the potential to be the best. A great season lies ahead and much more is expected from them.

Marquee signing Alexis Sanchez could also be the other stand out player. Recruited from Barcelona in a big money move, the Chilean will be more than willing to prove his fee.

Youngsters, Sanogo and Campbell could also be in line to prove a point.

Welbeck sale to Arsenal ‘unwelcome’ by former Manchester players

Scholes is the latest former Manchester player to rue the sale of Welbeck to Arsenal. The Englishman was signed by the Gunners at the transfer deadline day.

Speaking to the Independent, Scholes said, ''Naturally, I was sad, as a United fan, to see Welbeck leave this week. My feeling was that if he could have got through this transfer window and stayed at the club he could have been a part of United’s future over the next few years.’’

Earlier on Mike Phelan, Rio Ferdinand and Beckham regretted the sale of Welbeck to Arsenal.

Its time they get over it as the new boy bags goals for Arsenal.

Is Arsenal well covered at the back?

In the recent seasons Arsenal has always been associated with poor defending and individual errors at the back. This trend was however thwarted in the last season as Arsenal kept a joint number of clean sheets with Chelsea.

This season, Arsenal has not kept any clean sheet in the EPL so far. The backline has not been consistent due to injuries and lack of fitness for the key defenders.

In the previous season, the key defenders were Sagna, Per, Kolscieny and Gibbs. With the departure of Sagna, Debuchy was recruited. Monreal has also been deployed as a cover for the injured Gibbs. Chambers has been used as a makeshift defender to cover either for Per or Kolscieny. At left back, an injury to Monreal would mean Flamini as the left back.

With the summer transfer closed, does Arsenal have enough cover at the back? Was there need to recruit another defender as cover for Vermaelen?

Danny Welbeck transfer signals English empire at Arsenal

On the deadline day, Arsenal acquired the services of Danny Welbeck for a reported fee of £16M from Manchester United. The Englishman is expected to stand in for the injured Giroud.

Welbeck’s signing was one of the least expected transfers to take place. However, with the pressure mounting on Wenger to sign a striker, the addition of Welbeck will boost that position.

The signing of Welbeck signals the buildup of an ‘English Empire’ at Emirates. He joins fellow Englishmen like Chambers, Walcott, Ox, Jekinson, Wilshere and Gibbs. It is not surprising as sometimes back Wenger said he will hold the future of the England team.

Was the Arsenal transfer business a success?

The window transfer business for the summer was concluded yesterday. As expected there were rumors, gossips and vast of movements. With all the summer transfer frenzy, Arsenal was expected to do business. So how did they fare?

In the last season, Arsenal came close to winning the EPL title but fell short in the closing stages. It was evident that Arsenal lacked two to three signings to maintain the momentum. A striker and a defensive midfielder were the least that Arsenal needed.

So in this window, bar from making replacements Arsenal was expected to strengthen in those areas. In the concluded transfer they have acquired Chambers, Ospina, Alexis, Debuchy and Welbeck. Three of those players are replacements.

By signing Welbeck (after being linked to Falcao, Cavani, Cerci, Remy and et al) Arsenal has a cover for a striker. Whether he bags the goals, it is yet to be seen. Good luck to him by the way. However, after being rumored to sign the likes of Khedira, Carvahlo and Bender, Arsenal has failed to sign a defensive midfielder. An area that was desperately needed.

So another summer is gone and it concludes without addressing all the areas needed. The team now has to compete with the available squad. Hope in this season once the momentum is up it will never stop. Come on boys!

Leicester City 1 Arsenal 1: Arsenal held-they need to strengthen weak areas

That was the score at King Power Stadium on Saturday. A week ago, a draw at Everton was applauded but a draw against Leicester was mourned. That’s football for you.

Actually, like all the previous performances, Arsenal were lucky to escape with a point. They looked blunt upfront and the midfield never looked to click. In all truth when you analyze that Arsenal performance they don’t look like title contenders, they look like a team fighting for fourth place.

The last time I saw Arsenal play a fluid game was against City in the Community Shield. In the games that have followed, Arsenal has looked shaky in all areas. Ill-discipline, calamitous defending, incoherent midfield and blunt strike force is the least one can describe Arsenal right now.

All in all, an area that Arsenal is found wanting is the striking department. With Giroud injured, Yaya was the man to lead the attack. With due respect to Sanogo, I don’t think genuine title contenders can lay their hopes in a striker who is yet to find the net in 17 competitive games.

Wenger has to fix the weak areas before the window closes. A defensive midfielder and a striker is the minimum that Arsenal needs. There are less than 15 hours left to fix this. Tick Tock….
