Gerrard tongue ‘slips’ against Arsenal

This time, it’s not the title that slipped away from Gerrard, it was his tongue. The Liverpool midfielder revealed how he dissuaded Suarez from joining Arsenal. He said that ‘Suarez was too good’ for Arsenal.

"Last summer when he was out in the cold and training on his own that's the conversation I had with him. I said, 'Don't go to Arsenal' Gerrard told reporters. He continued, "With all due respect to them, I said to him that he was too good for Arsenal.

The Uruguayan was a subject of interest for the Gunners in the previous summer as Arsenal attempted to trigger his release clause. You will remember clearly the £40,000,001 bid from Arsenal last summer.

Hey Gooners, obviously you don't agree with Gerrard, right?

Madrid hoping to sell Khedira to Arsenal

Spanish giants Real Madrid are still hoping that a deal for Khedira to Arsenal goes through. This is after Bayern Munich made a cheeky bid which would make Khedira join them for free next summer.

Madrid had accepted the offer from Arsenal but the deal faded over the salary demands made by Khedira. He wanted wages of £ 150,000 per week.

Madrid is willing to sell Khedira otherwise they may risk losing him for free next summer. It is not clear whether they will be willing to drop their asking price to lure Arsenal into signing him.

Joel Campbell future could be dependent on a move for Douglas Costa

Arsenal has been recently linked to the Brazilian, Douglas Costa of Shakhtar Donesk. The Brazilian is keen on a move due to the political crisis in Ukraine.

Sky Italia reported that Arsenal is seriously considering a move for the 23 year old striker. Should he be signed, Joel Campbell will be allowed to go on loan for more first team football.

Well Gooners, the summer fare continues. A time when we are linked to over 30 players. Hope 'Le Professor' will sign quality players that will improve areas that we are short. A defensive midfielder and probably a striker will do.

Is Calum Chambers transfer a gamble?

The gunners are expected to complete the transfer of Calum Chambers from Southampton FC at a fee of around £12million. Wenger admits it is a gamble paying such a hefty fee on a 19 year old with a handful of top level appearances.

What provides value for money for the young man is his versatility. He can play as a center back, right back or as a center midfielder. Wenger expects Chambers to prove his fee just like Walcott and the Ox have done.

What your say Arsenal fans? Do you think Wenger should have gone for a more experienced defender?

Arsenal close to signing Calum Chambers

Various sources are reporting that Arsenal is close to signing Calum Chambers from Southampton FC. Arsene Wenger is keen on bolstering his defensive options by signing the under- 19 England man. The fee is believed to be around £11-16M.

Calum Chambers has made less than 18 EPL appearances, but Wenger sees potential in the young man. Calum can play as a right back; centre back or in an advanced position. His signing will cast doubts over the future of Carl Jekinson, who is rumored that he will be sent on loan for first team football.

If the deal goes through, all can say is ‘Hurray Gunners’ and ‘Sorry Saints’ for another raid.

Ospina or Szczesny?

Then Arsenal manager confirmed that a deal for David Ospina is imminent. The FA CUP champions are set to sign Ospina for £3.2m from Nice. The gunners are hoping to wrap up the deal ahead of their pre season friendly with New York Red Bulls.

The signing of Ospina will pose competition for Wojciech Szczesny for the GK spot. Even though Wenger confirmed that Szczesny remained as the No. 1 goal keeper, he affirmed that this position will be down to his performance.

The Arsenal boss was quoted "You know at the start Szczensy will be the No. 1, then again we'll be down to performances and, if Ospina shows that he is better, he will play," the Gunners boss said.

Gunners, what is your say? Ospina or Szczensy for the No. 1 spot?

Arsenal consider Casillas deal

According to the Metro, Arsenal has made the intention to bring the Real Madrid stopper to North London. It is rumored that Arsenal has made a concrete offer to sign him.

Sources say that Arsenal has offered him £100,000-a-week for 5 years, a deal that the Madrid skipper would find ‘difficult to refuse’. At Madrid, the 33 year old will have to compete with Diego Lopez and Keylor Navas. It will be remembered that for the past two seasons he has played as a second fiddle goal keeper.

If brought in, Casillas is expected to bring in vast experience to the team.

This news will attract mixed reactions from Arsenal fans following the reported agreement between the club and David Ospina. For now we have to wait and see how it goes.

Is another striker needed at Arsenal?

The Arsenal manager revealed that he would strengthen the squad by bringing a goalkeeper and probably a Center back in case Vermaelen leaves. He ruled out the signing of a new striker this summer.

Arsenal fans will offer various reactions in the wake of Wenger’s comments. Does Arsenal need another man upfront? It seems the arrival of Alexis Sanchez has cooled down the interest of the gunners in search of a new striker.

With Giroud, Campbell and Sanogo, Wenger may opt to increase the strength of his strike force by recruiting his new signing to play through the middle. However, in absence of Walcott Wenger will have to play Sanchez on the right wing at least until his recovery.

This news may be a surprise to many fans. Can Arsenal rely on Giroud? Can Sanogo and Campbell step up? We have to wait and see.

Arsenal don’t need a Khedira

Yes Khedira is a proven world beater but that is not the player Arsenal needs. Arsenal needs a pure holding midfielder. Remember most of the goals scored last season came as a result of losing the ball while attacking the opponent. Arsenal needs somebody who can intercept and stop the opponents’ counter attacks.

Khedira is talented but his statistics prove otherwise compared to what Arsenal needs. He has never averaged more than two tackles in a game in any season. Arsenal needs a traditional defensive midfielder. Somebody who is faster than Arteta and less prone to surge forward in search of goals (remember Song?).

William Carvalho or Morgan Schneiderlin fits the description.

Fellow Gooners, lets wait and see who Wenger will buy.

Is Arsenal Ready for the Battle?

It will be remembered that in the previous EPL season, Arsenal were in control for lengthy part of the campaign. We failed towards the end. That was not the first time that it happened. It’s a perennial thing.

Of emphasis is that we fail to turn up when it matters most. Arsenal has always been criticized of failing to match the ‘big guns’. In fact, I looked at the recent statistics between Arsenal and the teams that have finished in the top 4, it was horrible.

Last season, we threw up the title hopes because of the ‘big games’. Remember the early kick off matches at Etihad, Stanford and Anfield? That doesn’t matter now. The question is do we have the steel to get points at Etihad, Stanford and OT come next season? Can Wenger give the team a winning mentality after the FA cup triumph last season?

Well Gooners, let’s hope for the best next season.

Arsenal 2 – 0 Boreham Wood: Arsenal topple Boreham in pre-season friendly

Arsenal opened their pre season campaign with a solid victory over Boreham Wood. The goals were scored by Olsson and Benik Afobe in the 68th and 86th minutes respectively.

Of note is that Abou Diaby made his comeback from his long-term injury. He completed 45 minutes of play time. He almost scored in the 57th minute through a fierce shot that was tipped over by the Boreham Wood goal keeper.

The Gunners will continue their pre-season campaign when they meet New York Red Bulls on Wednesday. A chance to meet our legend, Thierry Henry.

Good Luck Gunners.

Mourinho ‘pokes’ Arsenal

Well, the premier league has not started but Mourinho is already throwing the pre-season jibe at Arsenal. He claims that Cesc Fabregas did not want to return to Arsenal and that it was very easy to lure him to Chelsea.

Speaking for BT sport Mourinho said, “I spoke with him for 20 minutes. I think he really wanted to come to us. As you know Arsenal had an option where they could interfere but I think he was not open to that. He was very much in our direction. It was an easy job for me.’’

Do you believe him Gooners? Here at Only Arsenal we say Mourinho’s jibe is because he clearly sees Arsenal as a title threat.

#WelcomeDebuchy, but three or four more signings have to follow

We are all delighted that the deal for Debuchy has finally gone through. Debuchy arrived from Newcastle as a replacement of Bacary Sagna who left for Manchester City for free.

Surely the signing of Debuchy is a good sign for Arsenal. It is a kick start for more signings to follow. Arsenal needs at least three more signings before the season starts. A striker, a holding midfielder and a goal keeper are three signings that Arsene Wenger should make to be able to compete for trophies.

Mind you, Arsenal will also be forced to sign a Center back if Vermaelen, whose future still hangs in the balance, leaves.

It’s a summer that Wenger should spoil us. Don’t you think so Gooners?

Khedira Alternative?

The Mirror is reporting that Arsenal is looking elsewhere to sign a holding midfielder. Sami Khedira’s reluctance to sign a new deal at Madrid has sparked various rumours regarding his future. Arsenal has been heavily linked to Khedira but his demand for a hefty perk has forced Arsenal to look elsewhere.

Arsene Wenger opts for Lars Bender as the alternative. The Telegraph is reporting that Arsene is an admirer of the Bayer Leverkusen midfielder.

Arsenal is in need of a holding midfielder. It is with no doubt that Khedira or Bender will add steel to the North London side who want to push for more trophies in the coming season.

Fellow Gooners window transfer is one of the most interesting aspects in football. Grab the popcorn, sit back and enjoy.

'I Want the UCL or EPL Next Season'

Well those are the words of one Santi Cazorla during the launch of the club’s new PUMA kits. The Arsenal midfielder is keen to live up to the momentum of the FA triumph. The midfielder wants either the Champions League or the Premier League next season.

Cazorla is confident of more trophies next season given the prospects of signing high caliber players. With Sanchez already in the bag, Arsenal has been linked to the likes of Debuchy and Khedira. Cazorla feels that such players can make Arsenal hit new heights in the 2014/2015 season.

There you have it Gooners. Which of the cups do you think is realistically achievable in the coming season?

Sanchez is in, who is next?

With the World cup wrapping up yesterday, we are back to the summer fare. All eyes are on Arsenal to see who they will sign before the new season.

Various sources are reporting that Arsenal is hoping to announce the signing of right-back Mathieu Debuchy at some point this week.

The Gunners had been rumored to be interested in signing the Ivorian defender, Serge Aurier but it seems they have channeled their interest to the Newcastle man.

The deal is thought to be around 10 million pounds. The gunners are aiming to sign a replacement to Bacary Sagna before the start of the pre-season.
